Where are you licensed and insured? Are you bonded?
Windmill Gate Company is licensed, bonded and insured to work in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

Do you provide an installation or material Warranty?
Yes. Installation is guaranteed for one year and materials are guaranteed for 5 years.

Is your wood Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified?
We wish all our projects were FSC-certified, but we use FSC wood only at the request of the owner. This certification can significantly raise the cost of a project.

Does my fence have harmful pressure treated chemicals?
While arsenic was recently outlawed for use in pressure treated wood, we rarely use it except for posts on some fencing. We prefer to use only woods that are naturally resistant to decay, as we appreciate both your and our own health.

Will the fence gate rot?
Not for many years. We make our gates out of highly resistant clear grade Baldcypress, Cedar Species, Mahogany and White Oak. All species are extremely resistant to decay and hold the highest government rating for rot resistance, as per U.S. Wood Standard ratings.

Will the hardware or nails rust?
It is unlikely because we buy high quality, powder-coated steel hinges and latches produced in England and Canada.
We also use stainless steel nails, screws and bolts for our gates that are resistant to the oils of cedar. Galvanized and zinc fasteners are less expensive, but they rust over time due to the oils in Cedar wood, so we prefer not to use them.

Will the plywood square on my gate fall apart like regular plywood in the rain?
We use marine-grade plywood typically used for making boats. It is made from Douglas Fir, and is much more costly than regular plywood. We have also used marine epoxy and the highest-rated exterior glues for the gates.
